Ishmel Jones Reid

Mr. Ishmel Jones Reid, 88, of Jayess, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at his residence in Jayess. He was born July 18, 1931, in Lawrence County to Albert Cannon and Hettie Cynthia Tullis Reid.
Services were held Friday, November 22, 2019, at Topeka Baptist Church in Jayess, with graveside services following in Tilton United Methodist Church Cemetery. Bro. Jeffrey Conn, Dr. Michael Reid and Bro. Dale Authement officiated the services, with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ishmel loved being outdoors, fishing, gardening, playing golf and basketball. He was a member of Topeka Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Mr. Reid proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army and enjoyed telling his stories to others. He loved his devoted wife, children, grandchildren and all his family, as well as a multitude of friends.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ivye Lou Storie Reid; two daughters, Debbie Reid and late husband, Tommy, and Brenda Conn and husband, Tab; one son, Dr. Michael Jones Reid and wife, Andrea; and eight grandchildren, Tabitha Speights and husband, Ryan, Maria Verdin and husband, Billy, Jeffrey Conn and wife, Nicole, Melissa Ownby and husband, Josh, Rocky Reid and wife, Stacey, Soon Ferguson and husband, Tye, Will Reid and fiancee, Brooke Flory, and Kaylee Pettit and husband, Justin. He also leaves behind 17 great-grandchildren that he absolutely adored.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Cannon Reid and wife, Tommie, and Harold Reid, and one sister, Dimple Reid.
