Willard K. Griffin

Retired Chief of Police, Mr. Willard K. Griffin, 80, of Monticello, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2019, at Lawrence County Hospital in Monticello. Willard was born December 14, 1938, in Lawrence County to Walter Griffin and Maxine Buchanan.
Services were held Thursday, August 15, 2019, at Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello, with graveside services following in Monticello Municipal Cemetery. Bro. Michael Smith officiated the services, with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Willard served as Monticello Chief of Police for 27 years and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department for a total of 38 years of service until he retired in 2005. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend to many. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Monticello.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joyce Griffin of Monticello; children, Elizabeth Wilson of Monticello, Kent Nations and wife, Mary Ann, of Sontag, and Gina Naef of Brandon; grandchildren, Justin Wilson and wife, Maria, of Monticello, Jessica Nations and husband, Toby, of Monticello, Millaine Hogue and husband, Chase, of Starkville, Daniel Nations of Sontag, Kayla Naef of Brandon and Zach Naef of Brandon; six great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson.
