Frances L. Chavis

Funeral services for Mrs. Frances L. Chavis were held Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Old Hebron Baptist Church. Mrs. Chavis, 89, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at her home in New Hebron. Reverend Terry Phillips, Reverend Tyler Chavis, Reverend Micah Rutland and Reverend Neal Hollinger officiated. Interment was Sunday, March 17, 2019, in the Jones Cemetery in Redfield, Arkansas.
Saulters Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Joshua Chavis, Jack Chavis, Brandon Chavis, Luke Holland, Taylor Chavis and Landon Gartman. Honorary pallbearers were Colton Chavis, Mason Chavis, Noah Holland, Jase Chavis and Myers Chavis.
Frances Lorene Chavis was born October 28, 1929 in Sheridan, Arkansas, to James Clayton Vanlandingham and Masil Mae Moore Vanlandingham. Mrs. Chavis graduated from Sheridan High School, moving then to Pine Bluff for work, where she met her husband-to-be, a young Baptist minister. They married in 1951 and raised four boys while serving mostly rural churches in Arkansas and Mississippi, with Mrs. Chavis often serving as church pianist. Settling in New Hebron, she worked until retirement as an elementary school teacher’s aide at New Hebron Attendance Center. When Reverend Chavis died in 1973, Mrs. Chavis continued serving the Lord as a long-time member of Old Hebron Baptist Church near New Hebron.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband, Reverend Clifton H. Chavis; one son, Darrell Keith Chavis; one grandson, Zachary Hamilton Chavis, and one sister, Irma Jean Nix.
Mrs. Chavis is survived by three sons, Larry (Sydnie Lynn) Chavis of Mendenhall, Ronnie (Donna) Chavis of New Hebron and Mark (Christi) Chavis from McKinney, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Vickie Chavis of New Hebron; one sister, Lynda (Russell) Hollinger of Prattsville, Arkansas; nine grandchildren, Shannon (Brady) Gartman, Jamie (Todd) Holland, Joshua (Miranda) Chavis, Tyler (Brittany) Chavis, Brandon (Ashley) Chavis, Jack Chavis, Taylor Chavis, Alyssa Chavis and Colton Chavis; 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
