Monroe Harris

Funeral services were held Monday, January 21, 2019, at Friendship M.B. Church in Monticello for Mr. Monroe Carsie Harris, Sr., 73, who died Tuesday, January 15, 2019, in Chicago, Illinois. Rev. Kelvin Langston, pastor, officiated, with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Monroe Harris was born to the late Johnie Lee Harris, Sr. and Mrs. Clotiel Harris in New Orleans, Louisiana. He graduated from McCullough High School and started working with Greif Brothers in Monticello. He relocated to Chicago and continued to work with Greif Brothers until retirement.
He was a member of The Helping Hand Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnie Lee Harris, Jr., and James Earl Harris.
He is survived by his wife, Marzella Harris of Chicago, Illinois; son, Monroe (Treka) C. Harris, Jr., and daughter, Marci (Nicholas) Haynes, both of Chicago; eight grandchildren; two godchildren; mother, Clotiel Harris of Monticello; three brothers, Thomas (Diane) Harris of Chicago; Douglas Harris of Monticello and Robert G. (Delsie) Harris of Monticello; two sisters, Dortha (Willie) Grinstead and Johnnie M. Woodard, both of Monticello, and many other relatives and friends.
