Rickey James Brent
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 15, 2018, at South Pleasant Hill M.B. Church for Deacon Rickey James Brent, 49, who died Sunday, December 9, 2018, at Jeff Davis Community Hospital. Rev. Robert Collins, pastor, officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rickey Brent was born to the late C.J. and Mrs. Geneva Brent. He was a member of New Zion M.B. Church, where he was a member of the choir. He later joined South Pleasant Hill M.B. Church, where he was a deacon and Assistant Sunday School Superintendent and served on the Program and Food Committee. He was also a member of Men’s Choir.
He attended school in Lawrence County, where he played football and graduated in 1990. He was a forklift driver for several companies before his health failed him in 2017.
He is survived by his wife, Lynda Brent of Silver Creek; mother, Geneva Brent of Oakvale; father-in-law Seggie Toney, and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Hooker, both of Silver Creek; sisters, Sarah Gray of Prentiss, and Diane Ross and Veronica Brent, both of Oakvale; brothers, Matthew Brent of Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Latterel (Alecia) Brent of Valparaiso, Indiana; stepchildren, Patrick Graves of Boston, Massachusetts, and Kendrick Graves of Collins, Byron Barnes of Gautier, and Victoria McInnis and Syretta Fagan, both of Prentiss; sister-in-law, Linda (Bill) Magee of Prentiss, and brother-in-law, Sammie (Elizabeth) Toney of Silver Creek.
