Vander LaPatrick Morris

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 29, 2018, at North Pleasant Hill M.B. Church in New Hebron for Mr. Vander LaPatrick Morris, 41, who died Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Lawrence County Hospital in Monticello. Rev. Moses Johnson officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Vander L. Morris was born to Kenith Dampier and Detra Morris Fortenberry. He was a member of North Pleasant Hill M.B. Church and was a Mason. He graduated from Lawrence County High School in 1993 and attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College. He had a career in offshore drilling before his illness. Mr. Morris loved attending events at the racetrack and fellowship with family and friends. He married his high school sweetheart, Dr. Lawanda McDuffey-Morris, who preceded him in death. To this union, one child was born, Jordyne Nicole Morris.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clention and Shellie Morris and Clarence Dampier.
Mr. Morris is survived by his daughters, Jordyne Morris of Hattiesburg and Kierra (William) Wade of Hazlehurst; mother Detra (Frederick) Fortenberry of New Hebron; father Kenith (Mary) Dampier of Jackson; maternal grandmother, Iola Armstrong of New Hebron; brothers, Frederick Fortenberry of Newport News, Virginia, Tony Fortenberry of New Hebron, Carlos Adams of North Carolina, Eric (Yolanda) Dampier of Jackson and Patrick Drummond of Terry; sisters, Latonya Fortenberry of New Hebron, Monique Duckworth of Mt. Olive, Sanqierra Dampier of Jackson and Kierra Dampier of Dallas, and three grandchildren; mother and father-in-law, Philemon and Gayness McDuffey; special friend, Tammie McGowan, and many other relatives and friends.
