Dominique M. Barnes

Ms. Dominique M. Barnes, 17, died Monday, June 4, 2018, as a result of injuries she suffered in a one-vehicle automobile accident in rural Lawrence County. Services for Ms. Barnes were held Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the Lawrence County Multipurpose Building in Monticello. Interment was in the Shady Grove Church Cemetery in Silver Creek, with Laird Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Barnes was the daughter of Fred Barnes and Tanya Gholar Barnes of Silver Creek. At an early age, she joined the Shady Grove M.B. Church and remained a member until her death. She served her Lord and Church as Assistant Secretary of the Sunday School, Praise Team member, Usher and Choir member, and in many other capacities.
Ms. Barnes attended Lawrence County High School, where she participated in JROTC for three years, attaining the rank of Cadet Captain. In addition to numerous other extracurricular activities, she was a member of the basketball team during her ninth grade year, and maintained her status as a Principal Scholar. Ms. Barnes accomplished these feats while working as a cashier for Ramey’s Market for two years. As a fashionista, Ms. Barnes was known for her love of the latest Jordans and other athletic wear.
Ms. Barnes survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Barnes of Silver Creek; one brother, Christopher Barnes; her maternal grandparents, CJ and Louise Gholar of Silver Creek; two godmothers, Iva J. “Cookie” Hooker and Jennifer Baggett and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and other relatives and friends.
