Dorothy Mae Parkman

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Springhill M.B. Church in Silver Creek for Mrs. Dorothy Mae Loflin Parkman, 81, who died Saturday, May 12, 2018, at her residence. Rev. Roy L. Thompson, pastor, officiated, with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Dorothy Parkman was born to the late Woodrow and Adder Smith Loflin. She graduated from Prentiss Institute and attended Jackson State University. She was married to John L. Parkman and four children were born to this union. She devoted her talent as a pianist in church until her health failed. She played for many years at Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church and New Jerusalem Baptist Church and Progress Baptist Church in Gulfport and Springhill Baptist Church in Prentiss and Palestine Church in Oakvale. She was Ancient Matron and a member of Heroines of Jericho, Court 495B. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader in Gulfport and was a Harrison County Band Booster. Mrs. Parkman was a professional seamstress with Maybelle Manufacturing Company. She was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department in North Gulfport.
She is survived by her husband, John L. Parkman; two daughters, Linda (Calvin) Lewis of Picayune and Mary Parkman of Nashville, Tennessee; two sons, Jerry (Belveanna) Parkman of Gulfport and Timothy (April) Parkman of St. Martin; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and one aunt, Mary L. Smith of Prentiss.
