Dorothy Day Rayborn Townsend
Dorothy Day Rayborn Townsend, 85, was called home from this life May 6, 2018, at her residence in Jayess. Dorothy was born June 20, 1932, in Jayess to Herschel and Alma Day Rayborn.
Services were held Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Jayess Baptist Church in Jayess with graveside services following in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Jayess. Bro. James Sanders, Bro. James Taylor and Bro. Scott Johnson officiated the services, with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy was a very gifted individual who shared her knowledge through teaching throughout life. Her official teaching positions include teacher at the Columbia Training School and McComb City Schools. She was also the business owner of Whispering Pines Ceramics of Jayess and Reflections of McComb. She was also the manager of the Summit TWL. Mrs. Townsend served as trustee for the Pike, Amite and Walthall Library System. She also served as Scooter Mouse’s administrative assistant. She was an artist, potter, florist, avid reader and Bible scholar. She and Roger celebrated 68 years of marriage on April 30 of this year.
Surviving Dorothy are her husband, Roger G. Townsend of Jayess; daughters, Nancy Taylor (James) of Perry, Florida; Sophia Bratkovich (Vincent) of Jayess; grandchildren, William Thomas (Carly), James Taylor (Samantha), Emily Mitchell (Nick), Kristen Clark (Jacob), Clara Taylor, Lindsey Thomas, Victoria Taylor and Annie Bratkovich; six great-grandchildren; brother Jerry Rayborn (Elaine) and sister Linda Easley (Douglas) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Memorials can be given to her home church, Jayess Baptist.
