Preston Gary Davis, Sr.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Greater Deliverance Worship Ministry for Minister Preston Gary Davis, Sr., 55, who died Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Rev. Wesley Bridges officiated, with interment following in the Stewart Family Cemetery in Silver Creek. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Minister Davis was born to the late Edward and Virginia Rogers Davis in Queen, New York. After moving with his family from New York to Oakvale, Mississippi, he attended Monticello High School, where he graduated and later joined the United States Army and served four years.
He was married to Chandra Stewart and three children were born to this union. He joined New Zion M. B. Church and served at Rose Hill M. B. Church and later became a member of Greater Deliverance Worship Ministry under the leadership of the late Elder Marcus Smith. He served as Sunday School Superintendent, President of Trustee Ministry and Intercessory Team. He was co-founder of Just a Reminder Ministry.
Minister Davis worked at G&S Rental and Griffith Supply and was presently employed at Lily Rose Water Association in Prentiss. He served on the Board of Habitat for Humanity, Lawrence County Branch.
He was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters, two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Chandra Davis; four sons, Delvan Stewart of Rosewell, Georgia, Bryann Watts of California, Preston Davis, Jr. of Silver Creek and Corpsman Andrew Davis of Great Lakes, Illinois; daughter, Chaundra Davis of Silver Creek; two brothers, Kevin Rogers of Kuwait and Miles Davis of Silver Creek; sister, Michelle Mitchell of Gainesville, Florida; mother-in-law, Irene Stewart; three grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
