Shelby “Shay” Ervin

Shelby “Shay” Ervin, 84, of Sontag, was called home from this life January 15, 2018, at Lawrence County Nursing Center in Monticello. Shelby was born November 17, 1933, in Jayess to Edwin and Ethel Daughdrill Ervin.
Services were held Friday, January 19, 2018, at Shiloh Baptist Church with graveside services following in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Sontag. Bro. Ed King and Bro. Andy Fullington officiated the services, with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Shay “Slam Hammer” Ervin worked on pipeline construction for over 50 years. Throughout the years, he worked all over the United States and also Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Iraq. He was a friend to many because he never met a stranger. He loved his family and his friends.
Surviving Mr. Ervin are his wife of 64 years, Vitalys R. Ervin of Sontag; sons, Eddie Ervin of Monticello, Richard and Sister Ervin of Sontag, Randall and Rene Ervin of Sontag, Delane and Sherri Ervin of Sontag; Ricky and Debra Ann Hill of Sontag; grandchildren, Natheon Ervin, Kelly E. Hoskins, Tate Ervin, Will Ervin, Darren “Smokey” Ervin, Alfred LeBoeuf, Chad Ervin, Marc McNeese, Tara Ervin, Audree Ervin and Ally Ervin; and great-grandchildren, Tristan Barton, Lexie Hoskins, Kaylee Anna, Madison Ervin, Trevor Hoskins, Falynn Ervin, Coleman Ervin, Barrett Ervin, Ridge Ervin, Thomas Ervin, June LeBoeuf and Daniel LeBoeuf.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Ed and Ethel Ervin; his son, Sherman “Frog” Ervin; his brother, Peck Ervin and his sisters, Johnnie Ruth Miller, Doris Lambert and Shirley Rose Heggins.
