Emanuel Slay Sr.
Emanuel Slay Sr. was born October 9, 1950 to the union of Samuel Slay Sr. and Vetta Lewis Slay. He departed his earthly home on September 10, 2017. Emanuel attended McCullough High School, where he graduated in 1968. He also attended Prentiss Institute. He joined Pearl River Valley Baptist Church at an early age and remained a member until his death. He served as the church treasurer and trustee. Emanuel was a true, loyal and dedicated fan of Jackson State University Tigers.
Early in life he was employed with Georgia-Pacific, where he retired after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Monticello Lodge #348 Prince Hall Affiliation, Jurisdiction of Mississippi.
Emanuel was united in holy matrimony to Linda Hilliard. To this union they were blessed with three children.
Emanuel was preceded in death by his father and mother, Samuel Slay Sr. and Vetta Lewis Slay and one brother, Isom Slay.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Linda Hilliard Slay; three sons, Kevin Slay of Dallas, Georgia, Emanuel Slay Jr. of Monticello and Kendall Slay of Dallas, Georgia; four sisters, Wilma Johnson, Barbara Stewart, Betty Bridges and Ruby Sutton of Monticello; three brothers, James Slay of Vallejo, California and Samuel Slay and Gerald Slay of Monticello; seven grandchildren; three godchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
