Funeral services for Virginia K. Speights were held Monday, August 28, 2017 in Monticello at Carmel Baptist Church. Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Graveside services followed the funeral service in the Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Virginia King Speights, 89, of Monticello, passed from this life on August 25, 2017 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was born on January 22, 1928 to Preston King and Dora Davis King.
Virginia grew up in the Carmel community with her brother John Paul, surrounded by extended family and friends. She married Lee Bruce (L.B.) Speights in 1946. Her next years were busy raising her five children: Gary, Genevieve, Jo Ann, Cheryl and Johnny. She had fierce love for her family, friends and Carmel Baptist Church, where she served as church secretary. She was well known in the community, having served as Town Clerk for Monticello and also working in the Circuit Clerk’s office for many years.
She is survived by one son, Johnny Lee Speights of Monticello; two daughters, Jo Ann Packs (Clifford) of Bush, Louisiana and Cheryl Speights and fiance Terry Lafargue of Mandeville, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Andrew Pack (Kelly), Ryan Speights (Tabitha) and Jessica Thibodeaux (Troy); six great-grandchildren, Noah Speights, Anne Speights, Grace Speights, Corinne Thibodeaux, Sadie Thibodeaux and John Preston Pack and one sister-in-law, Ruby King.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Preston and Dora Davis King; husband, Lee Bruce Speights; son, Gary Speights; one daughter, Genevieve Speights and one brother, John Paul King.
