Sue Cox Thames

Mrs. Sue Cox Thames, 79, died Sunday, May 28, 2017 at her home in Clemmons surrounded by family. She was born in Monticello to James and Velma Cox and was one of six children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jimmy Cox and her big sister Joan Dickson.
Sue lived a Cinderella life filled with love and laughter with her husband of 62 years, Wilford. She traveled and lived all over the world, from her small hometown in Mississippi to a tropical pacific island as well as an idyllic town in The Netherlands and many others in between. She was a devoted wife and a beautiful, strong and loving mother. Her friends describe here as a fresh burst of salty air with a remarkable character and a giant personality packed into her petite frame. She never met a stranger and there was no challenge she couldn’t face with southern grace and the strength of a lion. She leaves a gaping hole to her family.
Surviving are her husband and three children, Phil Thames (Connie) of Cary, Todd Thames (Monica) of Cary and Dedra Chamberlain (Todd) of Winston-Salem. Her four grandchildren, Kelly, Megan, Hayden and Kassidy, and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Cheyenne, were the lights of her eyes and each of them were uniquely special to her.
She also leaves a devoted little sister, Sandra Hedgepeth (Carey); two brothers, Kedric and Bobby Cox (Gail); brother-in-law Lawrence Dickson and sister-in-law Melba Cox, all of Mississippi, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and many dear friends.
A memorial service was held June 10, 2017 with visitation following at the Vogler and Sons Funeral Home in Clemmons, North Carolina.
Her family would also like to thank her doctor, Susan Hines and the staff of Forsyth Cancer Center, and all the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Forsyth Medical Center’s Novant Health Derrick L. Davis Cancer Center or Hospice.
