Gay L. O’Neal

Funeral services for Gay L. O’Neal, 92, of Wiggins, were held Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Moore Funeral Service in Wiggins.
Gay, a believer in and follower of Jesus Christ, was an active member of Vardaman Street Baptist Church in Wiggins. He passed away Monday night, May 15, after complications from a stroke last November. He was a loving, giving person who was unselfish in every way. He loved to work, loved to encourage others and loved his family, especially his wife, Ernestene.
Gay’s spiritual gifts were service and encouragement. His untiring work for his church family spoke volumes while he chose to remain in the background. In his later years, Gay spent much time visiting and encouraging the sick and bereaved.
Gay began his work career as a “Doodle-Bugger,” working for the Delta Company searching for oil. His work for Delta took him from Canada to Trinidad and parts between. After marrying Ernestene, Gay decided he needed to settle down, so he hired on with Florida Gas Pipeline where he was stationed in Wiggins and then in Perry, Florida. In 1967, he began working for St. Regis Paper Company in Monticello (now Georgia-Pacific), where he retired as a power house operator. In other endeavors, Gay was Vice -President of both Channel Z Cablevision and O’Neal Broadcasting.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Ernestene Athelda Johnson O’Neal; four sisters, Fae Bodie, Ruth Odom, Ercel Stewart and Jeanette Fiolich and two brothers, Wayne O’Neal and Carmen O’Neal.
Survivors include his sister, Bertrice Hurst of Big Level; sons, Michael O’Neal and his wife, Agnes, and Rusty O’Neal and his wife, Debbie; grandchildren, Brittney Guess, Tiffany O’Neal and Jenny Bullock, and many other extended family members.
Donations on behalf of Gay can be made to Gideons International.
