Sollie Smith, Jr.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Coleman Chapel Church of God in Christ in Silver Creek for Mr. Sollie Smith, 62, who died Thursday, August 20, 2015 at his residence. Elder Adell Brown, pastor, officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Smith was born to the late Sollie Smith, Sr. and Mattie Stranger-Smith in Simpson County. He attended New Hebron High School. He was the Steward/Supervisor of the Union Hall working out of Jackson. He was the Labor Union Vice President of Local Union 576 in Jackson. He worked for FEMA from 2005-2006 during Hurricane Katrina Recovery. He also worked on the pipeline.
He was a member of Coleman Chapel Church of God in Christ where he was president of YPWW.
He was married to Sharon Smith and to this union, two children were born.
He is survived by his fiancee, Arie “Dot” Downing of Gulfport; son, Bryant Smith of Louisville, Kentucky; daughter, Timiko Smith of Henderson, Kentucky; five brothers, J.C. Campbell of Chicago, Illinois, Joe Lewis Campbell of Atlanta, Georgia, Donald Smith and Joe Earl Smith of New Hebron, and Willie Earl Smith of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; four sisters, Lola Smith of San Diego, California, Catherine Brown and Lilt B. Stowers of New Hebron, and Mary Tyler of Brookhaven; one uncle, Willie Powell of Chicago, Illinois; one aunt, Genevae Barnes of Danville, Illinois; and many other relatives and friends.
